The First Gold in Olympic 2008

Katerina Emmons of the Czech Republic had achieved the honor of winning the first gold medal of the 29th Olympic Games on Saturday 9 August with a compelling victory in the women’s 10m air rifle event.
The 24-year-old Emmons achieved her win by setting a new Olympic record of 503.5 points, after shooting a perfect 400 in the qualification round.
Lioubov Galkina of Russian shhotere took the silver medal with a score of 502.1. Moreover she had won silver in Athens. On the other hand Snjezana Pejcic of Croatia won the bronze with 500.9.
Chinese shooter Du Li completed a disappointing with fifth place. She had got the gold medal in Athens. So she was the hot favorite at the Olympics at home.
Katerina Emmons hit the bulls’ eye on all 40 of her qualifying round shots for a perfect 400 score and took a very small but vital lead into the finals and hit close to perfect 103.5 in the final round to take the gold medal.
On the other hand Du of china had also been flawless before getting 9 point on her 34th shot in the qualifying round to finish with 399. Then she appeared depressed and she struggled in the final round.
Emmons married U.S. shooter Matt Emmons last year. She was earlier known as Katerina Kurkova. She went into the front row of the mass after winning the gold medal to embrace as well as kiss her spouse.
Emmons win at the Beijing Olympic Games Shooting Range Hall marks with a big improvement on four years ago 2004, where she finished her journey with bronze behind Li and Galkina.
