This defeat is Nadal’s fifth on clay in 155 matches since 2005, which brings an end to the flow of 33 uninterrupted wins on the surface.

Federer’s win also gave him and other leading man who are on the top the hope to going into the French Open which starts next Sunday. However, the Swiss does not believe that this defeat would not worry the four-time champion. He said,

I don’t think he’s going to take any damage away from this, I’m sure he’s going to be rock solid in Paris again.

On the other hand, Nadal asserted,

Playing four hours was not a problem for today. Roger was much better than me and deserved to win.

Now, Federer back in his form, his fans will be waiting for something to watch at the French Open next week.

He has steadily gained ground against Federer and pushed him from the top spot of the ATP rankings. Everything reached the climax in January at the Australian Open 2009. Rafa grabbed the first Grand Slam of the year defeating Roger Federer on hard court too. This was the only surface where the 27-year-old former Number 1 was still having a supremacy against the Spaniard. More, Federer couldn’t control his nerves and burst into tears during the prize award ceremony.

The Indian Wells is the first tournament after the Australian Open that schedules both stars on the main table. The Californian tournament is the first tennis Masters event of the year. It gathered the creme of the world’s tennis stars. Last year’s edition was won by Novak Djokovic.

The tournament currently reached the phase of the last 16 and the Big 4 group is bidding for another title. Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray have all qualified for this phase and are favorites to win the title this year. Of course, Rafael Nadal is the top seed and also main favorite to grab the title. Will we have another Nadal vs Federer showdown? Who can stop the Spaniard? Watch the Indian Wells live and see the outcome.

He also added that,

“A dream comes true for us. We love children and we are looking forward to being parents for the first time. Mirka is feeling great and everything is going well.”

Rafael Nadal truly is a heroic performer after recuperating from the longest epic the Australian Open has ever known to conquer the might of Roger Federer and assert his third grand-slam title in a dazzling seven-month stretch. The 22-year-old Nadal held off Roger Federer in one more energy-fluctuation, five-set final to win the Australian Open on Sunday, keeping the Grand Slam singles record safe for now. Nadal needed 4 hours, 23 minutes to win 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-2.

After the match, Federer stood on the court, having just missed his first possibility to equivalent Pete Sampras’ record 14 Grand Slam singles titles. He was sobbing. He couldn’t speak. Federer finally said,

In the first moment you’re disappointed, you’re shocked, you’re sad, then all of a sudden it overwhelms you.

The problem is you can’t go in the locker room and just take it easy and take a cold shower. You’re stuck out there. It’s the worst feeling….. It’s rough.

The 27-year-old Swiss star couldn’t restrain tears at the presentation. Federer said with weeping, “Maybe I’ll try later. God, it’s killing me.” But he didn’t forget to congratulate Nadal within, saying: “You deserved it. You played a fantastic final.”

Nadal collected the trophy and put his arm around Federer. He said,

Roger, sorry for today. I really know how you feel right now. Remember, you’re a great champion, you’re one of the best in history.

He has now won five of the seven Grand Slam finals he’s played against Federer and is 13-6 overall against him. Nadal beat Federer in the last French Open and Wimbledon finals and replaced him at No. 1 last August after winning the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics.

The British tabloid News of the World published a photo and story Saturday viewing Michael Phelps smoking from a marijuana pipe. The picture was taken in November at a party in the University of South Carolina, the newspaper said. This picture is shocking which could really destroy the career of the greatest competitor in Olympic history.

The U.S. Olympic Committee said it was disappointed in the manners in recent times show by Michael Phelps, who was elected the group’s sportsman of the year. He also was pleased as AP guy sportsperson of the year. And his achievement in Beijing Olympic broke Mark Spitz’s 36-year-old record, which was the record of gaining most gold medals in an Olympic, was chosen as the best story of 2008. The USOC said in a statement.

“Michael is a role model, and he is well aware of the responsibilities and accountability that come with setting a positive example for others, particularly young people. In this instance, regrettably, he failed to fulfill those responsibilities.”

USA Swimming said,

Olympic champions are looked up to by people of all ages, especially young athletes who have their own aspirations and dreams.

Phelps makes an apology to fans and said the incident would not be repeated. In a statement sent to the Associated Press news agency, the swimmer acknowledged the photo was real. Phelps said in the statement released by one of his agents.

I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.

One of the legends in women’s tennis, Serena Williams, claimed her 10th Grand Slam title on Saturday with conquest over Dinara Safina. Serena Williams wrap the show on Saturday, comprehensive her fourth Australian Open title and grabing the world number one ranking with an unbalanced defeating of Dinara Safina.

The final was a totally one-sided affair, takes just 59 glittering minutes to floor her Russian opponent. The 27-year old American completely dominating her opponent and she beats the Russian no.1 in directly sets, 6-0 6-3. The full match was the show of amazing hard hitting from Williams, combined with a series of poor errors from the Safina, destined the Russian was broken in the second, fourth and sixth games of the opening set, slumping to an unusual 6-0 defeat in the first set which was quite a shock for the generally energetic Safina. No. 3 Safina, who was tight from the start of the tournament. But, soon after the match, she says sorry to the crowd for her performance, Safina said Williams was just too good, leaving her feeling like a ball-boy.

From now Williams becomes only the seventh woman with double-digit Grand Slam singles titles winner. Serena Williams all the time selects a special outfit to bring to Australia for a success celebration. Every second year, she gets to wear it. The Australian Open is now Williams’s most successful slam. She also has three U.S. Opens, two Wimbledons and a French Open crown. But now every second year, she gets to wear Australian Open title award. The no 1 Williams said to the pectators,

I absolutely, clearly, love playing here. You guys root for me so much. I don’t get that everywhere. So thank you so much.

The title not only brings her world no.1 once again but it will also bring lots of reward for the American tennis queen. By making the singles and doubles finals (with her sister Venus Williams), she already had grow to be the all-time leading money winner in women’s sports.

The current number one ranked tennis player Andy Murray is on his way to the top at the Australian open. As well as his performance, Murray is also getting help from the god. Last Tuesday British player won for the first time in Rod Leaver Arena. But the British number one did not want in such way because he was 6-2 3-1 up and cruising against Andrei Pavel before the Romanian pulled up short with a clearly evident back injury. Murray had started the game steadily and his level of tennis progressed as the set wore on, but he was slightly disappointed with the lack of time on court. Both players faced difficulties with high winds and the high sun, but Murray produced some sparkling tennis to finally make the breakthrough.

Although, Murray did not want to see the victory in such way but he then proved it again of being number one by defeating Spain’s Marcel Granollers. The first set was an unexpectedly tight affair, with Murray under pressure to hit top form. The pair traded early breaks before the Scot broke late in the set with a backhand down the line and then served out to clinch opener. However, the second set was much more relaxing for the British number 1. The Spaniard struggled to get involved in Murray’s service games and seemed, like many of the Scot’s opponents, to rapidly run out of ideas. Although still cruising in second gear, Murray’s level was high enough to take the second set comfortably 6-2. At the beginning of the third round Murray came out all guns blazing, clearly having made a conscious decision to be more aggressive. There was more weight behind Murray’s shots and Granollers struggled to deal with the sudden injection of pace into the Murray’s ground strokes. Murray managed to break twice and served out the set and match to book his place in the 3rd round, where he will meet Austria’s Jurgen Melzer.

Andy Murray, born 15 May 1987 in Scotland and currently holds the number one rank as a British tennis player. Murray bust in to the official ATP top 10 for the first time on 16 April 2007, and then reached the career-highest number for four after the U.S. Open, where he reached the finial and was defeated by Roger Federer.
The 21-year-old Serbian tennis star and glamorous Ivanovic, world No.6 in women tennis ranking has spent two weeks preparing at the Sunshine Beach with her Australian trainer Scott Byrnes. In the New Year, now she is full fresh, she has no lingering soreness from the thumb injury, which deprived her in August and September and had completely recovered from a recent virus. Now she is trying hard and practicing well, who hopes to go one round further than her Australian Open final loss to Maria Sharapova last year, she said,

I worked hard physically in the off-season and I’m looking forward to some competition and some matches again.

The first match of her will be on Monday night at Rafter Arena, and her opponent will be determined by today’s draw, in a break with tennis conference to give audience keen to watch her first match every chance of arranging a free night.
