International Cricket CouncilInternational Cricket Council (ICC) declares the 2008 Oscar awards of cricket. From 2004 ICC starts their new awards giving ceremony. And they do their best for a successful ceremony. So for this, from the starting of this prize giving ceremony it creates so much interest in the mind of players and fans. Over the year cricketers and supporters are waited for the declaration of the awards. ICC gives the award on the basis of different individual performance. So players get much encouragement to play well for better performance.

The fifth ICC awards ceremony was held on 10th September 2008. According to the previous, a gorgeous ceremony organized in Dubai, U.A.E for the award declaration. Best passionately expected award, Cricketer of the year award went to West Indian batsman Shivnaraine Chanderpaul. Chanderpaul bid the award from the shortlist of last year best cricketer. He fall into competition among other top performer nominees Mahela Jayawardene from Sri Lanka, South Africa’s Graeme Smith and Dale Steyn to take the top award.

As other time ICC also gives their awards for various categories such as test player of the year, ODI player of the year, emerging player of the year, and women’s player of the year etc. But in this year all of us known that a new format of cricket is started which is called Twenty20. It gets so much popularity among the fans. ICC also arranges a prize for it which is called Twenty20 international performance of the year. This award goes to the hard-hitter of India, Yuvraj Singh for his brilliant batting performance in Twenty20.

  • Emerging Player of the Year: Ajantha Mendis (Sri Lanka)
  • Women’s Player of the Year: Charlotte Edwards (England)
  • Associate Player of the Year: Ryan ten Doeschate (Netherlands)
  • Umpire of the Year: Simon Taufel (Australia)
  • Spirit of Cricket: Sri Lanka
